The Art of Silence

This is probably the most profound thing I've said this year, so please read carefully.

Silence is an art that everyone should learn, but unfortunately, it seems to rate very high amongst thehardest lessons to learn in life.

Proverbs 17:28: "Even a fool, when he holds his peace, is counted wise: and he that shuts his lips is esteemed a man of understanding."

That's very profound and thought-provoking too. Many people I have met  in my life are not people who are exceptionally smart or have a reservoir of wisdom or wise sayings, they are just people who over the years have learnt thhe art of silence and have put it in practical use. If you don't believe me, then put it to test. Look for someone you believe is wise and try to have a meaningful conversation with them for an hour; if they fall into the "Silent" category, you'll likely find out that they aren't all in all at the end of the day.
So the question might be "why do we have to keep up appearances?"

The answer simply is whatever you train yourself to do over a period of time will eventually become a part of you. Work on yourself while learning to be silent and you'll be amazed how what you'll say one day will come across to someone like the best thing ever heard.
Word of caution: Don't be a snob while trying to be quiet, you'll just repel people.

In case you're wondering how to learn this art, try to ask yourself the following:

Why do I talk?
Where do I talk?
When do I talk?
How do I talk?
To whom do I talk?
Finally, before you say anything, ask yourself the following: "Is it necessary, Is it harmful and will it benefit someone?"
Tell me after this if you don't see the best coming out of you!!!

  1. There is sure power in silence. While I know this, I am not always an advocate of silence often times. The bible records, "in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength..." Isa 30:15.

First time here. Great words on this platform. God bless you. Thanks for following me on twitter too :)
